In 1999 pianist Mark Simeon Ferguson completed a Master of Music at the University of Adelaide and was a semi-finalist in the National Jazz Awards at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival. He has lectured in the jazz department at the Elder Conservatorium since then.

Mark has performed in a very wide variety of musical genres alongside Australian and International artists including Mark Murphy, Eugene “Hideaway” Bridges, James Morrison, Ray Vega, Doug Parkinson, Paulini, Marina Prior, Peter Combe, Peter Cupples and Julie Anthony and he has supported performers such as Nina Simone, Jose Feliciano and Angelique Kidjo. He has toured Australia and NZ with Dublin-based Cabaret star Camille O’Sullivan.


Mark has been Musical Director for shows including The Fabulous Singlettes and The Gospel Music of Elvis Presley and toured Australia, NZ and Malaysia with dance band TNTLatinoz. He leads his own world jazz ensembles Marmalade Circus (performing at the Sydney Festival), Marmalade Jam (touring across Australia and Singapore for Musica Viva since 2002) and Marmalade Trio.

 

As a composer/arranger Mark’s commissions include a full-length ‘Gospel' revision of Handel's 'Messiah' for the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, songs for the SA Primary Schools Music Festival and arrangements for the Mike Stewart Big Band.
